Change of Season Skincare

As the season’s change, so should your skincare! We recommended all clients book in for a skin health review each season to adjust your prescription and treatment plan based on environmental and lifestyle factors.

In today’s blog, we will take you through some of our most common recommendations to maintain skin health during the cooler months.

Boost the hydration

As the weather cools down, the amount of moisture in the air decreases. Couple this with hot showers, artificial layers and lots of layers and you have yourself a recipe for dehydrated, irritated skin!

One of the easiest ways to combat winter skin dehydration is to add a hydrating serum into your current regime. This will help to replace the moisture that leaves the skin via transepidermal water loss.

We love:

Hydr8™ B5

This lightweight and easily-absorbed hydrating gel-serum delivers skin-softening Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid) and super moisture-enhancing Hyaluronic Acid to produce rapid and significant improvements in the general condition and feel of the skin.

DMK Betagen

Known as DMK’s ‘emergency crème’, Betagen is a unique formulation designed to revise skin demonstrating sensitivity, environmental stress, sun  damage, premature ageing and signs of trauma. Containing the powerful beta-glucan, it works to trigger the regeneration of damaged cells, collagen and help enhance the immune response to fight free radicals. Betagen is also formulated with rich nourishing ingredients that work to soothe and lock in moisture.

Nourish your skin barrier

All of these factors can also leave your skin’s barrier feeling a little impaired. Incorporating oils, lipids and other nourishing ingredients can help to create an armour against environmental factors and keep your skin strong and healthy.

By adding in a richer moisturiser as the last step of your regime, you can also help to prevent transepidermal water loss and lock in all the nourishing goodness from your skincare regime. If you like to keep things light during the day, choosing a heavier night cream can be a great way to give your skin a little extra love overnight.

We love:

Reinforce the natural moisture content and enhance the skin’s density to visibly improve fine lines and create a deeply hydrated, softer, and smoother complexion. Use as a mask by applying a thin layer for 5-15 minutes then gently remove or leave on as a sleeping mask for intense repair and hydration.

Include a weekly treatment

As the weather cools down, often we swap evenings out and about for a cosy night in. We love adding a weekly treatment into our skincare regime to amplify results and give the skin a little boost in between clinical treatments.

We love:

Your skin still needs exfoliating in winter but choosing a gentle option can be beneficial for skin that is sensitised. Micro Peel is a  gentle, non-irritating exfoliant formulation works to remove dead cell material and debris quickly and easily. Recommended for most skin types, Micro Peel helps to revise and refresh dull, coarse or wrinkled skin. Simply apply to the skin then follow with the hydrating treatment of your choice.

Boost water levels from the inside

It wouldn’t be a St. Skin blog without some internal loving! The cooler months are when your skin needs a little helping hand the most!

Make sure you are still drinking 2L of water each day to hydrate your skin from within. If you are looking for a warmer alternative, try sipping on herbal tea (bonus points for an antioxidant-rich variety like green tea!).

EFA ULTRA

Winter is when you will notice the benefits of your EFA Ultra the most too. This combination of EFAs 3, 6, 7 and 9 work to soothe and nourish the body, increase water levels in the skin and improve its structural integrity and barrier function. If you’re someone who experiences ‘strawberry skin’ on your body due to dehydration, you should notice that EFAs will reduce these symptoms too.
