Frequently Asked Questions

What is Dermal Therapy?

Dermal Therapy is the treatment and management of skin health and skin conditions. Dermal Therapy procedures are non-surgical treatments that assist with anti-aging, acute, and chronic skin diseases. Dermal procedures include a range of laser and light based treatments, resurfacing procedures and lymphatic procedures. Benefiting the general health, well-being and maintenance of your skin.

What are Dermal Clinicians / dermal therapists?

Dermal Clinicians / Therapists are formally trained in a Bachelor’s Degree of Health Science specialising in the area of Dermal Therapies which focuses on skin treatment and management procedures. Dermal Clinicians / Therapists use their extensive training in skin biology, physiology and knowledge to evaluate your skin condition and develop personalised skin care plans and solutions.

Can I go out in the sun after treatment?

Sun exposure must be avoided after specific skin treatments, such as resurfacing laser, rejuvenating laser, hair reduction, skin needling and light too deep peels. Some of the treatments performed can make the skin more sensitive to sunlight and more vulnerable. We always recommend the use of an SPF, reducing and minimising UV exposure to all areas of our clients skin, as this has been proven to be the number one cause of skin damage and ageing.

Can I exfoliate or use products on the area after treatment?

Direct exfoliation on treated areas should be avoided for a period of time after a skin treatment, commonly this is 5-10 days depending on the treatment. Your Dermal Clinician / Therapist will advise you when is best based on your treatment.

How do I prepare for my treatment?

Preparation of your skin prior to treatment will be advised to you by our Dermal Clinicians / Therapists. The use of your cosmeceuticals and LED light therapy is always recommended and ingredients such as Vitamin A based items are usually discontinued 3 days prior to reduce sensitivity. Unless otherwise stated by your Clinician / Therapist.

LED TREATMENT

What is the LED Lounge?

The LED Lounge is St. Skin’s treatment haven where we provide a bespoke menu of clinical and science based skin treatments. Each private pod is fitted out with recliner armchairs and an LED ‘Healite II’ machine which utilise specific wavelengths of LED light to rejuvenate your skin in sessions ranging from 9 – 20 minutes.

What is LED light therapy?

Light Emitting Diode (LED ) was originally developed by NASA for plant growth experiments in space and has been used safely in aesthetics for over 15 years. With LED therapy, light is absorbed through the layers of skin and into the skin cells. This light is then converted into energy, which stimulates the cell to replicate healthy skin cells.

What are the benefits of LED therapy?

LED treatments not only have immediate results but more importantly improve the condition and appearance of your skin long term. Light therapy oxygenates the skin cells, it also increases blood flow and circulation reducing inflammation and the appearance of pores, lines and wrinkles. Following a course of LED treatments clinical changes include the improvement in collagen, elastin and cellular function – all of which are great for treating conditions such as acne, dermatitis, eczema and rosacea.

How does LED therapy work?

Just like plants, our skin and other body tissues have the ability to absorb light and convert it into energy. LED light therapy delivers light energy in a similar way that plants absorb light energy from the sun. LED emits UV-free, beneficial light rays that energise cells and stimulate the body's natural process to build new proteins and regenerate.

Is it safe?

LED is a non-invasive and natural treatment with multiple medical studies showing no adverse side effects. It has been used safely and effectively for aesthetic applications for over 15 years and is the only aesthetic device that has no contra-indications of any kind. It is safe for the eyes and it cannot be overused. While LED is safe for women who are pregnant and breastfeeding we suggest consulting your doctor first.

Who is it suitable for?

LED is suitable for all skins types, colours and conditions; and provides a non-invasive treatment option. It complements the skin’s own natural ability to rejuvenate, boost collagen synthesis and stimulate wound healing; helping with overall skin health.

Is LED similar to Laser treatment?

Not to be confused with laser, LED has a unique ability to produce the same specific light frequencies as lasers without damaging skin tissue. LED does not involve any heating of the skin. It improves the health of the skin by stimulating the skin cells metabolism without causing injury and requires no down time.

What should I expect during my first LED Lounge experience?

The sensation is similar to lying in the sun without the damaging effects during which a warm, pleasant feeling can be felt over the entire face. While you're there you can mediate, unwind even take a power nap - the whole process is very relaxing. You will walk out feeling warm, fresh and rejuvenated. LED is also proven to stimulate serotonin levels.

What results can I expect?

On your first session your skin will feel rejuvenated from increased oxygen and blood flow to the skin. After the first 2 weeks skin will appear smoother, brighter and more plump. After four weeks skin tone will be more even, tighter and firmer with a healthy improvement in tone, clarity and texture. The complexion is plumped up with new collagen (which pushes the folds of the wrinkles out) and new elastin (which helps to tighten the skin and give it more elasticity).

How many sessions will I need?

LED Lounge sessions are recommended two to three times a week for a course of four to six weeks. Ideal for pre-wedding prep or before a big event. A session can take anywhere between 9 - 20 minutes.

How long do the effects last?

LED therapy will stimulate the skin’s natural cellular processes which help to rejuvenate and repair damaged skin. After a course of treatments this result continues to improve up to 4-6 months after a light treatment.

Will it make me breakout?

LED will not contribute to breakouts. It will actually help with the healing of breakouts by speeding up recovery time, assisting with inflammation and increasing lymphatic flow to help with toxic build up.

Can I apply make-up straight after?

You can apply make-up right after an LED treatment. We provide aftercare including SPF moisturising, but if you prefer more coverage we recommend using natural mineral makeup where possible.

Will it help with pigmentation?

LED can help with the underlying inflammation of pigmentation, boosting the health of the skin and helping to minimise the appearance of pigment.

Is it ok for sensitive skin?

LED is perfectly safe for sensitive or compromised skin. It is a non-invasive fantastic treatment to aid skin that is experiencing anything from mild sensitivity, eczema or psoriasis by helping increase the skin’s natural wound healing process.

    DMK ENZYME THERAPY

WHAT IS DMK ENZYME THERAPY AND HOW DOES IT WORK?

DMK Enzyme Therapy treatments are not your typical facial, they are specialised facial treatments designed to oxygenate blood within the skin, detoxify and revise the skin to function as a young, healthy skin does.

It does this through a reverse osmosis action, which is a back flushing action, forcing fluid through the membranes surrounding our cells and flushing out impurities by utilising transfer messenger enzymes to increase cell communication.

This treatment works on a cellular level, to treat dysfunctions within the skin that are contributing to or creating the presenting condition or concern. You will be left with a healthy environment for your cells to thrive and function at an optimal level.

    WHAT CONDITIONS DOES IT TREAT?

DMK Enzyme Therapy is for all skin conditions and concerns, from acne, enlarged pores, rosacea, pigmentation, dehydration, dryness and ageing and is an exceptional treatment for the most sensitive and reactive skin types.

There are many different pre-treatment exfoliators within the DMK product range that we will carefully select prior to enzyme application and dependant on your presenting skin condition or concerns.

    WHAT DOES IT FEEL LIKE?

The DMK Enzyme treatment is applied as a mask, in a silky smooth texture that can feel cooling and tingly on the skin, within 2 minutes the mask will begin to harden almost like cement. This will remain on the skin for 30 minutes for body areas and 45 minutes for the face, neck and declottege, whilst you relax in our plush treatment bed you may feel a pulsating effect throughout the treatment area, which is the cosmeceutical enzymes and botanicals doing their job!

    ARE THERE SIDE EFFECTS?

After a DMK enzyme treatment you can experience a plasmatic effect, which will present as red flushed veins throughout the treated area. This will subside within 20-30 minutes and is a good sign to your treatment, your skin has achieved homeostasis. Generally no other side effects present from a DMK enzyme treatment.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

DMK Enzyme Therapy is a skin revision system and can be performed every 1-2 weeks or on a monthly basis, depending on the skin condition or concern being treated. We recommend beginning with a course of 4-6 treatments, which we will implement into your skin programme with you.
